Marriage at First Sight Season 18 came under criticism with respect to the lack of input on Emem Obot as she struggled to deal with maintaining a healthy married life with her husband, Ikechi Ojoré further proving that the experts on the show are incapable of functioning on the current format. Emem and Ikechi are one of the pairs of contestants matched on Mazed At First Sight season 18, and they have had challenges in virtually all aspects of the relationship during the course of the experiment. Many people seem to have benefited from the MAFS experts, which includes Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Dr. Pia Holec, and Pastor Cal Roberson, but so far Emem and Ikechi have been left to fend for themselves.
Recently, while some other couples have had dinner with the experts, Emem and Ikechi spend their time trouble shooting with Pastor Cal and Dr. Pia on why did things become so heated before Ikechi stormed off and ignored his wife after their anniversary dinner. As much as Ikechi was the more unreasonable one in the relationship, the MAFS experts did not attempt to engage Emem while surrounding her issues and instead sought to rope her in and have her be a part of the blame. Other Reddit users did not enjoy the approach taken by the experts including u/sprinksb who mentioned that they “not only enabling [Ikechi’s unhealthy relationship], but also fostering it solely for the profitability of the show.”
The relationship between Emem and Ikechi has not ben smooth from the start in season 18 of MAFS. However, Ikechi’s recent actions have been obnoxious. Emem has put up with Ikechi trying to play the pity card the entire season, while he systematically tried to paint her as the demon of the narrative. Throughout the run, he maintained a non aggressive stance her and instead blamed Emem for everything. It has become clear how independent Emem is and it frustrates him because he has no control over her.
By repeatedly attacking Emem in public and in front of the MAFS experts, it is painfully obvious that he has been molding Emem into the villain of this scenario. Even the experts who looked like they were trying to blame Emem for being difficult understood the scope of the problem. Rather, they were so busy impersonalizinged with the situation that they did not realize Emek had’s treatment of her was completely unjust. And that is why they have made it abundantly clear they are incapable of providing any assistance.
